What We Stand For

What Does Sol Sisters Stand For?

This year has been very divisive for our beautiful country. The critical election has shown a great divide in the American people. As a nonprofit organization, we do not have one single stance on politics, but there are things that we do stand for. Sol Sisters upholds an anti-racist, pro-Black, inclusive approach to our mission and values.

Equality For All Women

We believe in equality for all. We are all sisters. This include trans and non-binary women of all colors. Equality isn’t equality until it’s equal for everyone, and it is a constant fight. Women of color have to fight twice the battle of a white woman. We promise to stand up for each other, no matter what we look like.

Black Lives Matter

We fully support the Black Lives Matter movement. The injustice surrounding the unlawful and tragic death of Breonna Taylor brought up a lot for so many. Another life was cut short in a senseless act of violence against Black people. They were brothers, sisters, daughters, sons, parents, employees, students, friends, visionaries, leaders, and so much more. We are holding the Black community and many of you, our Black sisters, close in our hearts.

Climate Equality

For a while, BLM protests have been the result of police brutality, but inequality endangers communities of color in many other ways such as climate inequality.  Climate change is greatly affecting minority communities. The New York Times has written that nearly half of all deaths are members of the Black community, even in states where Black communities are small. This is largely due to environmental, economic and political factors that have compounded for generations, putting black people at higher risk of chronic illnesses.

Mental Healthcare

We believe in easy and equal access to mental healthcare. In the wake of the BLM movement, there was recently yet another act of injustice. Walter Wallace Jr. was killed by police in Philadelphia. He suffered from bipolar disorder and was in a crisis when he met with police while holding a knife. We need to stand with those who are in need of mental healthcare. A diagnosis should not end in death.

LGBTQIA+

We stand for every member of the LGBTQIA+ community. We are grateful that our community consists of women from all backgrounds including sexualities. We stand in solidarity together and will always work toward an intersectional, inclusive approach to feminism.

Voting

We believe in using our right to vote to have our voices heard. Use your voice and vote this week if you are able. Make sure that your voice is heard. Vote for your future. Vote for those who can’t. Go to vote.org to learn your voting rights and find out where to vote or drop off your ballot.
