WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

Our Story

ESTD.

2013

In 2014, Sol Sisters was founded by Dr. Christine Coleman to provide opportunities for women to access services that differed from traditional therapy without the cultural stigma.

In clinical and community settings, Dr. Coleman saw that traditional mental health models often failed to address cultural stigma around care, structural and economic barriers, and the need for community, identity, and belonging alongside therapy.

Dr. Coleman focused on the psychological impact of systemic oppression on women’s wellbeing. Her research and stories of the women she served revealed that healing could not happen in isolation. It had to be cultural, collective and preventative.

With this insight in mind, early Sol Sisters events became real case studies where we learned that women needed more than therapy alone.

They were looking for community, sisterhood, creative expression, places that foster joy, financial stability, professional growth opportunities, and support outside of clinical settings.

WHAT FUELS OUR WORK

Our Guiding Principles

Burnout, anxiety, depression are at historic highs especially for women of color. They are expected to perform, care, and endure without inclusive spaces to rest, heal, connect, and grow.

Our Vision

Sol Sisters envisions a world where every woman and girl has access to the support, community, and resources they need to lead healthy, confident, and fulfilling lives.

Our Mission

Our mission is to redesign accessible wellness and community care for women and girls. Through our wellness ecosystem, Sol Sisters helps them build the confidence, skills, and support they need to thrive in their communities.

The Values We Stand On

Women’s Empowerment

We believe every woman deserves access to the tools, relationships, and opportunities needed to thrive.

We champion women as they reclaim their health, strengthen their confidence, and step fully into their purpose.

03.

Equity

We are committed to reducing barriers that prevent women from accessing high quality wellness and economic opportunities.

Our work is grounded in creating inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible opportunities for women facing financial hardship or systemic inequities.

Community Care

Healing and growth happen best in connection with others.

We cultivate welcoming spaces where women feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow together.

Authenticity

We believe meaningful transformation begins with showing up as our whole selves.

We foster environments where vulnerability, integrity, and genuine connection are celebrated, empowering women to lead lives aligned with their values.

OUR WELLNESS ECOSYSTEM

Our Work

Through our wellness model, our programs address distinct areas of a woman’s wellbeing. Together, they form an ecosystem that starts with access to an inclusive community and goes deeper into individual growth and transformation.

“My experience since joining Sol Sisters has been rewarding and evolutionary. I am more confident in who I am as a woman and what I bring to the table. I’ve been reminded by the Sol Sisters’ community that I am seen, I am heard, and I am valuable.”
